Observation Bank

The Observation Bank

The Observation Bank is a resource, which allows all aspiring/new ADR ODR International qualified mediators to watch and experience real mediations with experienced mediators from all over the world.
Our aim is simple: we want to match, demand and supply.

Process

1. Observers’ details are entered onto the ADR ODR International Observation Bank database.
2. Our Case Management Team takes enquiries from mediators looking for observers.
3. Details of upcoming mediations are sent to our database of observers.
4. Observers who can attend the mediation correspond with our Case Management Team and organise their attendance at the mediation.

FAQs

Who pays for an observer to attend a mediation observation?
All of our observers will pay for their own travel and expenses to the mediations that they can observe. Our observers are acting as volunteers and will not be paid to observe mediations. The ethos behind the Observation Bank is to help newly qualified mediators experience real life mediations.

How much does it cost to become an observer?
If you are a member of ADR-ODR International (£30 plus VAT annual membership fee) then acquiring observations through us is included in your membership fee.
If you are not a member of ADR-ODR International then it is free to register yourself as an observer and you then must pay £10 for each mediation observation you attend.

Why should I observe a mediation?
It is good practice to refine your mediation skills, as a newly qualified mediator, by watching more experienced mediators mediate their own disputes.
In the UK and many other parts of the world it is required that you complete observations. We encourage mediators all around the world to become observers in order to experience first hand how to improve your mediation skills and practice.

How does the Case Management Team allocate observations opportunities to the people in the Observation Bank?
Our Case Management Team will send all observers details of the mediation observation opportunities that match their required interests. Once an observer has observed a mediation they will not be offered a second observation unless everyone who has not yet completed an observation is unable to attend the next observation opportunity that arises.
