My expertise
Over thirty years as a trial advocate I have learned where the courts can help victims and litigants. But crucially I have also learned to identify where a different approach might suit people better and provide a better way to solve their problems and disputes.

I firmly believe that mediation provides a vital tool for people who might otherwise be denied meaningful access to justice.

At the centre of every dispute – whether a fraud, an unlawful killing, a challenge to a government decision, or even conflict between states - are people who are looking to be heard and are seeking redress. On the other side of many disputes there are often companies or organisations who want to reach fair and just solutions while avoiding the considerable risks and costs of litigation.

Mediation can often provide the best way to and, often, to solve deeply embedded problems and restore enduring and productive relationships.

A traditional approach to the justice system may work well for those who have the financial and emotional resources to litigate. But litigation is not for everyone. I strongly believe that mediation can enable people to be far more positive and creative in achieving their goals: to resolve disputes and, where appropriate, rebuild relationships.

Video platform litigation has expanded rapidly since March 2020 and I have seen how much this can suit some. The key as always is a tailored approach that gives people in any dispute the best possible route to finding a solution that suits them.

Professional Experience

I have practiced from the same Chambers since 1993.

I have extensive experience of national and international disputes involving fraud and business crime, covering such areas as corruption, procurement fraud, financial services, sanctions, regulation and investment fraud.

I have acted as an Independent Compliance Expert and advised companies seeking to resolve investigations brought by national and international regulators.

I advise, prosecute and defend in homicide and unlawful killing cases, and act for bereaved families in Inquests.
I have held a unique combination of Bar leadership and representative roles, which have given me extensive experience of solving and mediating disputes with government. This work, taking place against a background of a decade of public sector austerity and the pandemic, has involved working with politicians, officials, the Judiciary and other professions.
