The most important people at mediation are the clients and I believe that while the mediator may have to ask difficult questions, it is important that the clients feel comfortable and that they can trust the mediator. Listening to the client and directing them rather than advising is an important part of a mediation. Being relaxed and approachable enables one to gain the trust and confidence of the client which in turn makes it easier to focus on the client’s wider interests while offering them new perspectives.
